When I flew from Vietnam back to the US, we had 11 hours of layover at Incheon airport! That is a looong time…So that means we had to find a way to keep us occupy and we weren’t disappointed with what we found. Here are a few things that we did:
1. Check out the shops in the airport:
I found this cute little shop that sells a lot of K-pop stuff: albums, calendars, accessories, etc…Also, you might stumble upon the Royal family walking around the airport…how cool! 🙂
2. Take a free shower and sleep:
That’s right, you can take a shower there at no cost! They also provide a free small towel, and soap! You get a small room to yourself that has a shower, toilet, and sink. Isn’t that wonderful? After a nice, warm shower, take a nap on one of the sleeping chair that are available all around.
How to get there: the shower would be on the 4th floor of the airport, near Korean Air and Asiana Airline lounges. When you get to the shower, there will be sleeping chairs all around.
3. Going on a transit tour:
This is the best part of my layover in Incheon airport. Incheon airport offer different tours depending on the length of your layover. And guess what? These tours are FREE. That’s right, they are free! Well, sort of. The one we did was 5 hour (the longest one they had) and we had to pay about 10 US dollar/person (which is really not bad).
Before going on your trip, make reservation online for the tour. You can find the tour website through the Incheon Airport website. Go on Incheon Airport website > Arrivals & Departures > Arrivals/Departures > Transfer (on the left hand side) > Transit tours. Make sure to get a confirmation letter for your tour reservations. To go on the tour, you will have to go through immigration which means you need a visa (depending on your nationality). This is the link I used to look up visa requirements. After you had gone through immigration, go to the transit tour main desk. Show them your reservation and wait until the time for the tour to start. There was a small bus that took us and a group of people to the destinations. I almost forgot to mention, we also had a tour guide that explained everything in English! We stopped at Insadong street to get lunch…I had bibimpap – my favorite Korean dish so far….yum!
Here are a few pictures I took during our brief trip to South Korea :)… enjoy:
These are Korean string honey candy. I knew about this candy from watching this video a while back and so I was SUPER excited to try them out!. The outer shell was made out of honey and had the perfect sweetness, just melted in my mouth. The center were crush up nuts and sugar, chewy but so tasty which explain why we finished that box in a ten minute span.
Eventhough we were only in Korea for a few hours, we definitely want to go back one day and spend more time there.
